This program is a year long project resulting in holiday gifts for individuals with intellectual disabilities & low income. It brings joy to many who are otherwise overlooked during the holidays.
A man with an intellectual disability may be physically 64 years of age, with an intellectual age of six. He expects and anxiously awaits the magic of the season. He does not qualify under the guidelines of most programs.
UAID accepts cash or pre-purchased items. Cash donations allow volunteers shoppers to take advantage of discounts and tax exempt status of UAID to multiply the value of donations.
Many individuals, families and corporations choose to sponsor individuals directly. Companies often choose names and shop for them in lieu of buying staff or client gifts. Typically the cost per individual is $75. Items purchased are essentials such as coat, boots, underwear and hygiene products. In 2013 UAID provided gifts to 1560 individuals.
